Our History

Sayyiduna Uthman Islamic Academy is a non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare and education of the Muslim community at large. It is located in the city of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

Sayyiduna Uthman Islamic Academy Background

  1. September 2017: The Sayyiduna Uthman Islamic Academy was established as an Islamic Academy, in collaboration with Lote Tree, at Jamiat-ul-Ansar in Brampton, Ontario. It began with 21 students and two teachers, offering full-time hifz classes (Quran memorization) alongside secular education.
  2. September 2018: The Academy experienced growth, with approximately 35 students enrolled in the program and three teachers. The Academy expanded to include three classes, and four students had successfully completed their hifz, leading Taraweeh prayers during Ramadan. By August 2020, an additional 14 students were expected to complete their hifz.
  3. January 2020: The Academy rented a new building located at 4099 Erin Mills Parkway – Unit 20 in Mississauga, Ontario. This move was intended to provide better facilities and accommodate the growing number of students. By August 2020, an estimated 20 students were projected to complete their hifz.
  4. February 2023: In response to the increasing number of students and the need for a masjid to serve the local community, the Academy relocated to Georgetown, Ontario, to access improved infrastructure. The move aimed to support the growing student population and provide a dedicated masjid for the local community.

Future Objectives

Our vision for the future of Sayyiduna Uthman Islamic Academy encompasses several key objectives:

  1. Community Center: We aim to establish a state-of-the-art facility that serves as a gathering place for Muslims to connect, fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie. This center will provide a welcoming environment where individuals can build meaningful relationships and engage in dialogue to enhance their understanding of one another.
  2. Comprehensive Education: Our goal is to offer a holistic education that encompasses both Islamic and secular subjects. We are committed to providing children, youth, adults, and seniors in our community with a well-rounded education that nurtures their intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth.
  3. Cultural and Social Activities: The Academy will serve as a vibrant hub for various social, cultural, and community-related activities. These activities will promote diversity, inclusivity, and the celebration of our shared values. Through events, workshops, and programs, we will foster a sense of belonging and actively engage individuals of all ages and backgrounds.

By pursuing these objectives, we strive to create a dynamic institution that positively impacts the lives of our community members, fostering personal growth, social cohesion, and a deepening of Islamic knowledge and values.

Need for a Masjid in the Area

The establishment of a masjid in the area is imperative due to several compelling reasons:

  1. Muslim Population Growth: The Muslim community in the area has experienced significant growth, with over 100 Muslim families residing in the vicinity. As the population continues to expand, there is a pressing need for a dedicated masjid that can accommodate the spiritual needs of the community.
  2. Lack of Full-time Islamic Education: Currently, there is no institution in the neighborhood that offers full-time or five days a week Islamic education. This void hampers the ability of children and youth to receive comprehensive Islamic teachings alongside their secular education. The presence of a masjid would provide a platform for consistent Islamic education and nurturing of faith.
  3. Central Location: The proposed masjid would be strategically located in the heart of residential areas, making it easily accessible to community members. This central location ensures that individuals of all ages can benefit from the services and programs offered by the masjid without facing significant logistical challenges.
  4. Educational Support: There is a dire need for children's education and coaching for the youth in the area. The masjid can serve as a center for educational programs, offering academic support, tutoring, and mentoring services to children and youth. This would enable them to excel academically while also strengthening their religious and moral foundations.
  5. Religious, Social, and Cultural Programs: With the growing Muslim community, there is a strong demand for religious, social, and cultural programs. The masjid can cater to these needs by organizing activities such as religious lectures, community gatherings, interfaith dialogues, and cultural events. These initiatives will foster a sense of unity, provide opportunities for community engagement, and promote understanding and appreciation of Islamic values and traditions.

By addressing these pressing needs, the establishment of a masjid in the area will serve as a cornerstone for the thriving Muslim community, offering a place of worship, education, and community development.
